Quick identification
The Haliplidae is another easily identified family. They are small beetles with the characteristics of all aquatic Adephaga, namely the short, glabrous antennae, boat-shaped body and swimming hairs on the legs. They are easily distinguished from other Adephaga by the enormous hind coxal plates (second figure) which conceal much of the hind legs.
