In 1997, Alcides Berrocal began working in charge of the boat for the department of Malacology at INBio. His interest in scientific work and desire to learn motivated him to register and to graduate in the course of parataxonimists that concluded in 1998. Later on, he became a rescue diver with more than 80 hours of diving on both coasts of Costa Rica. Alcides´s skill at identifying marine bivalves has made him an outstanding member of the department.
