Dr. Valdés is mainly interested in the taxonomy, systematics,
and biogeography of opisthobranch mollusks. He has published more
than 50 scientific articles related to these subjects and has described
around 70 new species, including 5 new genera and one new family.
He has done fieldwork in numerous localities in the Indo- Pacific
and Atlantic including Costa Rica, Mexico, Cuba, Egypt, New Caledonia,
and the Philippines. He obtained his doctorate from the University
of Oviedo, Spain and completed his post-doctorate at the California
Academy of Sciences, USA. Additionally, he has worked as a collaborating
scientist at the Museum of Natural History of Paris.
