INBio efforts to document Costa Rican Carabidae

Carabid beetles frequent both UV and Mercury Vapor lights, thus INBio from its inception has garnered thousands of specimens of this family. The less common species are rarely found at lights, however, and must be sought with alternative collecting techniques, such as various forms of hand-collecting, insecticidal fogging, pitfall or gutter trapping, and even malaise trapping has turned up specimens. In forests with epiphytes, searching through bromeliads often samples the arboreal fauna well.
