Classification
Suborder Polyphaga, Series Scarabaeiformia, Superfamily Scarabaeoidea.

Description
Antenae with 9 or 10 segments and a 3 segments club. Antennal insertions concealed. Visible portion of procoxa projecting bellow prosternum with the trochantin concealed. Procoxal cavity externally closed and internally open. Mesocoxae contigous, with mesocoxal cavity laterally open. Tarsal formula 5-5-5. Numberof ventrites 5 or 6 without ventrites connate. Body length 3-6 mm. Globular, glabrous or setose. Antennal club lamellate. Labrum and mandibles exposed. Body capable of rolling into ball.

Quick identification
Most species of Ceratocanthidae are easily distinguished by their relatively small size and highly contractile body, which is capable of rolling into a ball.
