Quick identification
Cryptophagidae are poorly represented in Mesoamerica. Those genera which do occur here either have lateral teeth or serrations on the prothorax (first and second figures) or have the antennal insertions close together (last two figures). They may be distinguished from the next family by having incomplete elytral epipleura and an enlarged first ventrite.
