Classification

Suborder Polyphaga, Series Cucujiformia, Superfamily Cucujoidea.


Description

Antenae with 9 segments and a 1 segment club. Antennal insertions exposed. Visible portion of procoxa globular with the trochantin concealed. Procoxal cavity externally closed and internally open. Mesocoxae separated by more than 1 coxal width, with mesocoxal cavity laterally closed. Tarsal formula 3-3-3. Number of ventrites 5 without ventrites connate. Body length 1.3-2 mm. Broadly ovate to circular and strongly flattened (especially Discoloma). All coxae small, globular and widely separated, but with long internal extensions.


Quick identification

Discolomatidae are oval to almost circular, strongly flattened, with 9- or 10-segmented antennae and a 1-segmented club. They can always be distinguished by the structure of the coxae (second figure) all three pairs of which are transverse but partly enclosed so that they appear to be globular and widely separated.
