Classification
Suborder Polyphaga, Series Cucujiformia, Superfamily Chrysomeloidea.

Description
Antenae with 11 segments, filiform. Antennal insertions exposed. Visible portion of procoxa globular or projecting bellow prosternum with the trochantin concealed. Procoxal cavity externally open and internally closed. Mesocoxae separated by less than 0.4 X coxal width to 1 coxal width, with mesocoxal cavity laterally open. Tarsal formula 5-5-5 but tarsomere 4 reduced and concealed at base of lobe on 3 (pseudotetramerous). Number of ventrites 5 without ventrites connate. Body length 15-30 mm. Elongate and slender with antennae longer than body. Similar to some Cerambycinae but with distinct mesotibial antenna cleaner.

Quick identification
Disteniidae are very similar to Cerambycidae, although generally considered to be a distinct family. Most have very slender bodies and very long antennae; however they have a distinctive antenna cleaner (oblique, setose groove) along the outside edge of the mesotibia.
