Description
Antenae with 8-11 segments, pectinate, or with a 5 to 6 segments club. Antennal insertions exposed. Visible portion of procoxa transverse with the trochantin at least partly exposed. Procoxal cavity externally open and internally open. Mesocoxae separated by 0.4 to more than 1 coxal width, with mesocoxal cavity laterally open. Tarsal formula 5-5-5. Numberof ventrites 5 with 2 connate. Body length 2-7 mm. Oblong to elongate, pubescent or rarely glabrous. Antennae with scape or pedicel variously enlarged. Eyes often hairy. Legs often long with large claws.

Quick identification
Dryopidae are a diverse group, but the main distinguishing feature is the antenna, which is short with a 4- to 9-segmented pectinate club. In some the 2nd antennomere is greatly enlarged, concealing most of the apical segments.
