Description
Antenae with 11 segments, filiform or clavate. Antennal insertions exposed or concealed. Visible portion of procoxa projecting bellow prosternum with the trochantin at least partly exposed. Procoxal cavity externally open and internally open. Mesocoxae separated by less than 0.4 X coxal width, with mesocoxal cavity laterally open. Tarsal formula 5-5-5. Numberof ventrites 5 or 6 with 2 connate. Body length 1-3.5 mm. Body elliptical, boat-shaped. Metacoxal plates enlarged, partly concealing legs. Head declined. Prothorax short. Rarely with tubular, piercing mouthparts. Tibiae with apical fringe of spines. Capable of jumping.

Quick identification
The Eucinetidae is a distinctive group of small to minute beetles with a streamlined elliptical shape, narrowing posteriorly, a strongly declined head which is narrowed anteriorly, enlarged oblique metacoxae with extensive plates (last figure), and a hind leg jumping mechanism. A few tropical species have sucking mouthparts, with a labral tube and styliform mandibles and maxillae (last figure).
