Suborder Polyphaga, Series Bostrichiformia, Superfamily Derodontoidea.

Description
Antenae with 10 segments and a 1 segment club. Antennal insertions concealed. Visible portion of procoxa globular with the trochantin concealed. Procoxal cavity externally open and internally open. Mesocoxae separated by less than 0.4 X coxal width or separated by 0.4 X to 1 coxal width, with mesocoxal cavity laterally open or closed. Tarsal formula 3-3-3 or 2-2-2. Number of ventrites 5 without ventrites connate. Body length 0.65-0.9 mm. Minute, narrowly elongate and glabrous. Metaventrite very long. Derolathrus.

Quick identification
The only genus of Jacobsoniidae which may occur in Mesoamerica is Derolathrus: all are less than 1 mm long with very long metathorax, and unlikely to be confused with anything else in that size range.
