Description
Antenae with 11 segments, filiform or moniliform, or with a 3 segments club. Antennal insertions exposed or concealed. Visible portion of procoxa globular with the trochantin concealed. Procoxal cavity externally open or closed and internally open. Mesocoxae separated by more than 1 coxal width, with mesocoxal cavity laterally open. Tarsal formula 5-5-5 or 5-5-4. Number of ventrites 5 without ventrites connate. Body length 1.5-3.5 mm. Elongate, flattened, pubescent or glabrous. Pronotum with sublateral carinae and elytra sometimes carinate. Head protruding, with projecting mandibles and usually median endocarina, occasionally with flattened rostrum.

Quick identification
Laemophloeidae is a relatively large group of small to minute, flattened and often glabrous beetles with filiform or weakly capitate antennae. Some (first figure) have modified basal antennomeres and others (last figure) have a flattened rostrum like some weevils.
