Description
Antenae with 11 segments, filiform or serrate or pectinate. Antennal insertions exposed. Visible portion of procoxa transverse with the trochantin at least partly exposed. Procoxal cavity externally open and internally open. Mesocoxae separated by less than 0.4 X coxal width or separated by 0.4 X to 1 coxal width, with mesocoxal cavity laterally open. Tarsal formula 5-5-5. Numberof ventrites 5 or 6 with 3 connate. Body length 3-5 mm. Broadly ovate and flattened, pubescent. Dicranopselaphus (Eubriinae) with crenulate hind margin on pronotum. Psepheninae soft-bodied.

Quick identification
Psephenidae are usually flattened, ovate, pubescent beetles, which may be soft-bodied and loosely organized, as in Psepheninae (first figure) or more compact as in Eubriinae (second figure), which also have crenulations at the base of the prothorax as in the family Ptilodactylidae.
