Classification

Suborder Polyphaga, Series Elateriformia, Superfamily Elateroidea.


Description

Antenae with 11 segments, moniliform or serrate or pectinate. Antennal insertions exposed. Visible portion of procoxa transverse or projecting bellow prosternum with the trochantin at least partly exposed. Procoxal cavity externally open and internally open. Mesocoxae contigous, with mesocoxal cavity laterally open. Tarsal formula 5-5-5. Numberof ventrites 8 without ventrites connate. Body length 2.5-5.5 mm. Soft-bodied, slender, flattened, pubescent. Elytra shortened exposing abdominal tergites. Maxillary and labial palps with long, flattened apical segment.


Quick identification

Telegeusidae have short elytra, a somewhat flattened head, and maxillary or both maxillary and labial palpomeres are very long and densely pubescent.
