Habitat information
When collecting larvae or pupae in a particular microhabitat,
a collecting number is written on the bag or on the container
with a permanent marker. This collecting number is composed of
three letters corresponding to the initials of the collector's
name or family name followed by a consecutive number corresponding
to the order of the collecting (LGCh 158 or BHB 200).
In the field notebook, a detailed description of the sampled
microhabitat, light conditions, the color and odor of water, the
type of forest or collecting habitat are written in association
with the collecting number. When collecting in bromeliads, the
height in which the bromeliad was located and its size (small,
medium, or large) must be recorded. When collecting in holes of
tree poles, the position (horizontal or vertical) and size of
the opening, and the depth are estimated and recorded. For puddles
and lagoons, their diameter and depth are estimated. In all cases
when larvae are associated with plants or holes in three poles,
the common or scientific name of the hosted plant has to be documented.
