Staff and collaborating taxonomists
The INBio staff working for this proyect is composed by one
technician (Xinia Fernández), one parataxonomist (Braulio
Hernández) and one curator (Guillermo Chaverri). The technician
is in charge of larva rearing, adult mounting, exuviae and genitalia
slide mounting, and the general looking after the collection.
The parataxonomist´s work is to collect adults and larvae
in the field, obtain larval and pupal exuviae, data-entry habitat
information of collected specimens, and slide-mounting of adults
and exuviae. The curator has to supervise the collecting, rearing
and mounting processes, to up-date the taxonomy in the database,
to curate the collection, and to expand the generated knowledge
throughout different publications.
This project has the collaboration of Dr. Richard Wilkerson, Walter
Reed Army Institute of Research, Smithsonian Institution, Washington,
who is a specialist in the Anopheles genus; and Dr. Mario Vargas
from the Universidad de Costa Rica who is a specialist in collecting
and rearing of adults and larvae, and in general taxonomy.
