Sampling site selection
Collection of specimens and their associated information have been carried
out since 1989.
From 1999 to present, specialized parataxonomists have collected Diptera
specimens in the chosen conservation areas to be surveyed as part of
the National Biodiversity Inventory. The following are the biological
stations where parataxonomists are collecting in 2001:
Barbilla Biological Station, Barbilla National
Park (La Amistad-Caribe CA) Progreso Biological Station, La Amistad
Internacional Park and Tapantí-Macizo de la Muerte National Park (La
Amistad-Pacífico CA)
Las Heliconias Lodge, Tenorio National Park (Arenal-Tilarán
CA) Sirena and Los Patos Biological Stations, Corcovado National Park
(Osa CA) Bosque Diriá Biological Station, Bosque Nacional Diriá Wildlife
National Refuge (Tempisque CA) Several biological stations (Guanacaste
CA)
Parataxonomists stay at different biological
stations in their assigned conservation area according to ecosystem
diversity near the stations, previous sampling efforts in these ecosystems,
and lodging availability of the stations. Besides, collecting expeditions
to inaccessible sites will be conducted, in particular, toward the Talamanca
Mountains.
