The Forest Department Herbarium (BRH)

  • The First herbarium was set up in 1928
  • The Herbarium is presently housed at the Forest Department Building on Forest Drive, Belmopan.
  • The herbarium houses a total of 15,000 specimens.
  • The collection provides excellent coverage of the Belizean Flora.
  • 84 type specimens collected by W.A. Schipp between 1929-1935
  • 52 specimens of threatened plants.
  • 80 different collectors.
  • Earliest collection made by first Chief Forest Officer for Belize, C. Hummel on 1st, May 1921.
